Add On or Move? How to Decide

The numbers and the lifestyle factors behind staying put and adding the space instead of moving.

Updated June 2026 · Awesome Additions · Sample editorial content

For a lot of DFW families the real question isn't "do we need more space" — it's "do we add it, or move to get it?" Here's how to think it through.

The case for adding

  • You keep your school district, your neighbors, and your commute.
  • Moving costs add up fast — commissions, closing costs, a higher rate on a new mortgage, and the move itself.
  • You get exactly the space you want, not a compromise someone else built.

When moving makes more sense

We'll tell you honestly if it does. If your lot can't accommodate the addition, the foundation won't carry it economically, or you need a fundamentally different layout, moving may be the better call. Saying that out loud is part of how we work.
